Hawaii vacation deals & news: September 18, 2024

– After a quiet spell, Kilauea is erupting again. The eruption began a couple of days ago with a start, pause and then a restart. The above photo shows fissures with lava fountains on September 17, 2024. This eruption is located in a wilderness area of Hawaii Volcanoes National Park (HVNP) that’s over six miles from the nearest road. Per HVNP, there are not any points for public viewing. Here are some resources for more information:

Kilohana Hula Show has temporarily relocated their shows to the Kuhio Beach Hula Mound (beachside) in Waikiki Beach. Shows are held from 9:30 a.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. Note that this location is the same spot where the Kuhio Beach Hula Shows are held on Tuesday and Saturday evenings. Both the Kilohana and Kuhio Beach hula shows are free and open to the public.

Hawaiian Airlines has a fare sale starting at $96 one-way for Main Cabin Basic seats from the U.S. mainland to/from Hawaii. Additionally, inter-island flights start at $49 one-way.

– Just today, Hawaiian Airlines announced that they’ve joined Alaska Airlines. The two airlines will operate separately until the operations can merge together in a process that might take up to 18 months. Until then, the two airlines will maintain separate websites, reservation systems and loyalty programs.
